The Art

Ellen specializes in raku pottery, using tiles or slabs which she then hand forms and alters to create wall murals, vases and plates. Her current interest in botanical textures and impressions are the main theme of her work, but Ellen also loves to make whimsical sea stars and moon snails. In the firing, Raku really brings the work to life in an amazing interplay of texture, pattern and iridescent colour set against a rich background of blackened clay.

The Artist

Ellen Statz was born and raised in Campbell River BC, where she still resides. Ellen obtained a degree in Fine Art at Malaspina College in Nanaimo. She was The Pottery Store’s first guest artist in 2010 and was so well received she became a permanent member of our team at that time. Ellen operates her home studio, Ellen’s Pottery, in Campbell River where she offers classes in raku firing.
