The Art

John’s raku techniques are based on the old traditions of Korea and Japan, while his glazes are contemporary. John’s work includes west coast forest images, oriental brush work and masking techniques to create complex and elegant glaze combinations.

The Artist

John hails from Alberta, but has been a resident of British Columbia for many years. His art career includes not only his beautiful raku pottery, but he has also welded stainless steel and cast bronze sculptures. John spent 24 years at Malaspina University-College, where he taught ceramics, sculpture and 3-D design. His studio, Fire Art Studios, is located in Nanaimo.
