The Art

John is a versatile maker of a unique and distinctive range of wheel thrown and altered high fired kitchenware. The beauty and balance of each piece contributes richly to the experience of eating and drinking. He also makes a range of art and garden pieces as well as a collection of funerary urns and memorial vessels.

The Artist

John Robertson and Harriet Hiemstra met at the Kootenay School of Art in the 1970s and later married and settled in Cobble Hill. Since 1988 they have been working and selling out of their studio and showroom in beautiful Cobble Hill, attempting to honor and preserve a small part of the traditional craft of pottery making. In 1996, they teamed up with JoVic Pottery and others to start The Pottery Store in Chemainus.
