The Art

JoVic Pottery creates functional work that is expertly thrown to ensure consistency of style, colour and size year after year. They also make slab plates and vessels. Typically their glazes are dipped in complementary colours in several distinctive collectible patterns. Surface treatments include intricate hand carving, alligator skin texture as well as slip trailed relief and mocha diffusion. Occasionally, Vic will take a reprieve from his production work to do some art pieces and raku items.

The Artist

Josée and Victor Duffhues are a husband and wife team that makes up JoVic Pottery. Originally from Ontario, Vic apprenticed on the wheel in a well known production pottery factory while Josée focused on handbuilding. The couple moved to Vancouver Island in the 1990s when they originally set up shop in Chemainus. In 1996, they invited other potters to join them to create a cooperative known as The Pottery Store.
