The Art

Peggy’s work features three distinctive styles and clay types. Her functional work is largely wheel thrown stoneware that is fired to Cone 6 in an electric kiln. She likes to texture her surfaces by ‘chattering’ the clay into gentle ripples, reminiscent of the waters of The Salish Sea, where she resides.

Her crystalline glazed work is made from high fired porcelain which is thrown on the wheel or rolled from slabs. Peggy enjoys experimenting with layering colours in her crystalline glazes, creating intriguing blossoms and frost-like images, which inspired her to title her art “Frost From Fire”. Peggy is also working in earthenware to create brightly coloured slab art pieces.

The Artist

Originally from Ontario, Peggy has been making pottery since the late 1970s. She is largely self-taught and gained most of her knowledge and skills through taking workshops and seminars with ceramic masters from around the world. Peggy moved to Vancouver Island in 2005 and has been co-owner of The Pottery Store since 2008. Pottery by Peggy is her home studio in Saltair where she teaches pottery classes.
