Lithium Glazed Vessel - Mary Fox

The Pottery Store is proud to represent the work of world renown potter Mary Fox. Her work encompasses two distinct lines: classic forms featuring spectacular decorative glazes and functional stoneware cookery and tableware.

Mary is attracted to the timeless elegance and grace of the classic forms seen throughout history and strives to push the clay beyond its limits with her expert manipulation on the potter’s wheel. Whether these forms are glazed in slips and crawl glazes, or rakued with her unique lithium/copper finishes,  each highlights the detail and excellence of her forms.

Museum Putty works on wood, glass and other surfaces and does not mar your furniture. To release, gently twist to lift off effortlessly. So have no fear! You can now enjoy wonderful art in your home with confidence.

Museum Putty was originally developed to protect fine art from earthquake damage and is much stronger than hardware store sticky tack products.  A $16.00 package contains enough material to do multiple projects and will keep for years. This fine product can also be used on figurines and antiques or to anchor pictures or electronics. It is easily removable and reusable.

Since its launch last week, we have been tweaking and adding to our new website. The latest addition is our Polymer Clay page featuring Gera Scott Chandler.  Gera has been showcasing her polymer clay art pieces here at The Pottery Store for several years now. Her bright and cheerful images always bring a smile to our customers’ faces.

Polymer clay is not actually a clay, but a polyvinyl material that can be manipulated and formed just like clay. It’s advantage over clay is the ability to use vivid colours and complex layers, as it does not undergo the high temperatures that cause colour burnout and slumping.

Pictured above is “Hattie”, one of Gera’s popular Muse Dolls. Hattie is 10″ high and sells for $135.00. She is one of only two left, as Gera’s art is changing direction. She is on a study sabbatical, so her current work is in short supply. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next, but for now, you might want to add Hattie or one of her contemporaries to your collection while you still can.

Christmas Hampers to help pets at Christmas

Four of Chemainus’ Merchants wish to thank Chemainus shoppers for their overwhelming response to their SPCA Christmas Hamper Campaign.  The Crafty Cuppa Cafe, The Golden Hanger, The Pottery Store and The Wine Den joined together this Christmas to help homeless and injured animals in the Cowichan Valley.

Each of the four businesses put together a draw for a gift package for anyone who dropped off a donation to the SPCA in their stores.  Kelly Jamieson of The Golden Hanger reported that she had to add two additional boxes in her store because of the number of items donated.  “The Cowichan Valley SPCA was overjoyed when we brought a truck load of items to them”. Kelly reported.

Frosty the cat

The merchants, who are all pet owners and animal lovers, came up with the idea of the SPCA Christmas Hamper Campaign when they realized that there was a gap in helping out our needy animal friends and at the same time continuing to support those less fortunate in our community.  Donations included two full sized kennels, blankets and towels, food, toys and cleaning supplies as well as $300.00 in cash.

“A huge thank you again to all who donated… frosty is one who will benefit” say’s Sandi from the SPCA.
