Barb Springer-Sapergia... in her own words...

"The best gift I ever received was a package of drawing paper when I was only 9 or 10. I drew and painted endlessly, spending almost every evening locked away in my bedroom working on whatever the latest project was. After I finished high school I went on to University and became a teacher, with an emphasis in Elementary School Art Education. When I started teaching grade 4 I was happy to learn that none of the other teachers wanted to teach Art, using all of the usual objections...’I can’t draw a straight line....I’m better at Math...etc.’ which left the door open to sharing the excitement of the Art World with all those creative young minds.

I left teaching to raise my two children, and after 30 years happily working at home as a potter, I realized that to truly nourish that creative side of me once again, I NEEDED to start painting and drawing again. I signed up for some refresher courses in watercolour, and now I'm on the most incredible journey and exploration into the world of drawing and painting.

For me, painting is a labour of love. Sharing my paintings is a little like running naked through town, but here I am, exposed for all to see."

Barb Springer-Sapergia works in her studio in Ladysmith, BC.
After working in clay since 1977, she is now following her passion for painting, using both watercolour and acrylics

Barb is still a very active partner in The Pottery Store in Chemainus, just not with pots! The store offers some originals as well as giclée prints of a limited number of her paintings.
